About Evelyn White

Evelyn White

EVELYN WHITE is a licensed Davis® Dyslexia Facilitator

After gaining an honours degree in physics at London University, Evelyn followed a career in I.T. for many years, working for British Airways and Kewill Systems. Along the way she took time out to have two children, and it was when the youngest was approaching 18 that she started to look around for a new career that was more people-oriented.

A friend asked for help for her dyslexic child. What was available? Evelyn set out to research the options, and became very interested. Amongst the books, she came across one with the intriguing title "The Gift of Dyslexia". What she read there was astounding. If true, then this was Good News! Could it be true? Evelyn was about to find out.

In the local pub, her daughter was busy telling the assembled group about Mum's discovery. To her amazement, a very dyslexic boy was there. He had been to specialists and experts, but this explanation was the first that made any sense to him at all. He was keen to try it out, so he and Evelyn followed the programme together. It made such a difference! His reading improved, and soon he was able to write, which was completely new.

Evelyn trained formally as a Davis Facilitator from October 2000, graduating in July 2003. Concurrent with this, she worked as a Learning Support Assistant in a State Comprehensive School for 11-16 year olds. During this time she used Davis strategies to help dyslexic and disruptive pupils, with some very satisfying results. Since Dyslexia Surrey was formed in 2003, Evelyn has helped people of a variety of ages and with difficulties ranging from reading and writing, through clumsiness, maths, attention and behavioural difficulties, to change their lives and reach their goals.
